Losari Coffee Plantation Resort & Spa stands in an exceptional location: a coffee plantation surrounded by seven volcanoes on the island of Java, Indonesia. The Javanese architectural tradition, made compatible with maximum comfort, is the first major protagonist of the project. The second is the nature of the Indonesian plateau, with which the resort had to resonate.<\/p>\n

From a Dutch colonial villa in the middle of the mountains of central Java, the goal was to make a luxury resort, but above all a point of recovery of the local cultural tradition. From the restoration of the colonial villa to the recovery of the old Dutch railway station, Andrea Magnaghi Architecture has carried out a work that is attentive to the history of the territory. The resort was conceived as a scattered hotel. The suites are traditional Javanese buildings recovered and transformed into luxury rooms with modern 5-star standards. An in-depth study of local architecture has allowed to preserve the atmosphere and the architectural concept of ancient traditions.<\/p>\n

The Spa<\/h2>\n

Within this system of small traditional buildings, the 3-storey building of the Spa had to disappear. Digging into the hillside and covered with greenery, the Spa is a discreet and scenic presence at the same time. The two large black-bottomed pools at the top of the building overlook the plateau, taking their shape from the terraces of the rice fields. As in the rice fields, from above you can only see water and greenery, while from below the large terracotta brick arcades inspired by the island’s medieval tradition are the entrance to the Spa.<\/p>\n

The Spa was designed following principles of natural hydraulic engineering. The water of the swimming pool on the roof of the building stabilizes the temperature and is an anti-seismic cover (the area is in fact volcanic and seismic). The Turkish bath and relaxation rooms echo the sober elegance of Indonesian Majapait architecture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
